Helping Veterans' Reintegration to Community through a Alumni Network
A veterans’ journey to reintegrate into civilian community is a tough experience, especially for the enlisted. A significant part of successful reintegration depends on obtaining civilian employment, but there is a disconnect between a vet’s expectations and the reality of civilian employment.
The client looked for an opportunity to help veterans during this transition by narrowing the gap through an alumni network site.
For this new business development, we created preliminary personas and preliminary customer experience journey maps based on our secondary research. Then we designed a sample user flow in wireframes.
In the proposed design, we ideated on the veterans’ ideal journey through a networking web site to maintain their personal military connection and help them find a job opportunity through fellow veterans just like a civilian job seeker does through their career or alumni networks. However, we designed the features specifically for veterans; such as self-organized mentorship offering, various DIY employment tools (employment resource navigator, self assessment tool), and digital vet profile that will help vets to keep their sense of belonging during the difficult transition period.
